Below are some of the most repetitively asked questions I hear all the time. Hopefully you will find something here of interest.
Q: How do you come up with the material you write about?
A: Past experiences mostly. The human condition has always fascinated me – what makes people tick. Although, you will be more likely to find me researching something pertaining to history or how to do something.
Q: How do you develop your characters? Where do they come from?
A: A lot of my characters just come to me. But a lot of them also come from people I have known. I guess it’s a 50/50 mix.
Q: What sort of books do you read? Any favorite authors/genre(s)?
A: I read, when I have time to read, just about anything. It would be difficult for me to label a favorite author and genre. I read books like I listen to music. I like a little of this and that, but I don’t keep track with any one author or musician. It really depends on my mood at the time.
Q: If some one gave you a plane ticket to anywhere . . . where would you go?
A: Wow! That’s a coin toss! I would personally love to go back to Key West, but I have always wanted to see Ireland and Scotland. There’s a long list of sites I’d like to visit, but those would be at the top of it.
Q: What if you won the lottery? What would you do with the money?
A: If I won the lottery I would want to help our parents; to give back something they sacrificed so they could help me and my wife. I would like to do something for the kids, also. But mostly, I would probably just sit down with my wife and decide exactly how and where we wanted to live and buy the home of our dreams.
Q: What is Kyran’s dream home?
A: Lot’s of land in the mountains with a cabin hidden within a small forest. A nice creek for fishing running through the place would be a huge plus! Although mobile living has crossed my mind . . .
Q: Aside from writing, do you have any other hobbies?
A: I sure do! I’m a treasure hunter at heart! I’m always looking for treasure – whether it’s with a metal detector, hunting fossils in gravel, or looking for a cool book at a thrift store.
Q: How much time do you dedicate to writing?
A: Never enough, I can assure you! What with family, holding a full-time job, and running errands, most of my time “writing” consists of jotting down story and/or character ideas when I get the chance.
Q: Do you keep up with current fashions or world events?
A: Ha! No, not really. I’ve never been into the fashion thing, like, at all! Fashion to me is like sports. I just can’t wrap my head around why people would want to keep up with such a thing. *laughs* But, anyway, to each their own.
As for world events, I think it is important to know what’s going on as far as what could affect the way we live as a country’s citizens and as individuals. I don’t get too involved, especially in politics, but I like to have an idea of things going on; sometimes.
Q: If you could hang out with any celebrities, who would they be?
A: Oh, man. Why do I have to get all the hard questions? Well, there is a living and a deceased list. I’d love to have had the chance to meet Robin Williams. I mean, I can’t even begin to tell you how much I admired the man! Red Skelton is another one I would have liked to have met. And let’s not forget the great Jim Varney!
As for today’s celebrities that are currently around, there’s a lot of folks I wouldn’t mind hanging out with. But if you’re looking for names then I’d have to say Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Tim Burton (and wife), Johnny Depp, Brendan Fraser, and Jimmy Buffett; for starters.
Q: Are you a pet man?
A: Yeah! I am a big rodent kind of guy. I can’t own any because my wife doesn’t like them. *laughs* We currently have a dog, Jezebel, who thinks she’s human most of the time. As for me, I like all kind of critters, really. Ferrets are mine and my wife’s favorite and number one pick if we had to get stuck with one kind of animal for the rest of eternity.
Q: What’s your idea of a perfect day?
A: A perfect day for me would be me and my wife hiking somewhere beautiful exploring some new terrain. If you throw in the temperature in the high 60’s with a nice breeze (and maybe some thrift stores) . . . then there ya have it! *smiles*
